On the morning of the 14th of August, Zainab put on new clothes and went to Dada with a green crescent flag in her hand. Songs found in the street were echoing but grandfather's eyes were silent. Zainab asked:
"Grandpa! Aren't you happy?"
Grandfather smiled and took out an old photo from his pocket. In the picture, a young man was standing with a flag on his chest.
"Who are these?" Zainab asked.
Grandfather's voice shook:
"Your great-grandfather gave his life in the journey to become Pakistan but did not let the flag fall from his hand."
Zainab took the flag to her chest. Today she understood the price of freedom.
