Once upon a time, in a big green forest, lived a bear and a fox. The birds sang sweet songs, and a cool breeze blew through the trees. The fox was very clever, but the bear was silly and very forgetful. He forgot things all the time, so the other animals called him "Forgetful Bear."
Forgetful Bear loved honey more than anything in the world! One sunny morning, he walked all around the forest looking for honey, but he could not find a single drop. Tired and hungry, he lay down under a giant tree and quickly fell fast asleep.
Behind a bush, Sly Fox was watching him. She knew how much Bear loved honey.
"If I play a trick," Fox thought to herself, "Bear will do all the hard work, and I will get to eat the sweet honey for free!"
Just then, a little rabbit hopped by.
"Auntie Fox! I have some news!" said Rabbit.
"What news?" asked Fox.
"Some humans have set up camp nearby," Rabbit said. "They brought big wooden beehive boxes to collect fresh honey!"
Fox’s eyes sparkled with joy. She thought:
"I will bring a beehive box, give it to Bear, and let him open it. When the bees fly out, he will run away, and I will eat all the honey!"
Fox chased the rabbit away and quietly snuck toward the humans' camp. She saw a tent and whispered, "The owners must be inside."
Finding the area clear, she quickly grabbed a small wooden beehive box and ran back to the forest. She placed it in front of Bear and called out:
"Dear friend! Open your eyes and see what I brought for you!"
Bear rubbed his eyes and asked, "Oh! What is this?"
"It is a special box where bees hide their honey," Fox smiled slyly. "I brought it just for you!"
Hearing the word honey, Bear jumped with excitement! But as soon as he opened the lid, a swarm of angry bees rushed out, buzzing loudly!
"Save me! Save me!" Bear cried, running around in terror.
The bees chased him, shouting, "You thief! We worked so hard to make honey, and you stole our house while we were resting!"
While the bees were busy chasing Bear, Sly Fox hid behind a bush, laughing. She quickly scooped out all the honey from the box and snuck away.
Poor Bear ran and ran until he was completely exhausted. Finally, he fell onto the grass and fainted. Seeing him on the ground, the bees flew away.
After a while, the King Lion passed by. He helped Bear wake up and asked, "What happened to you, Bear?"
Bear scratched his head lazily. "I don't remember, King Lion..."
The next day, Sly Fox decided to play the same trick again. She stole another small beehive box from the humans and brought it to Bear.
"Open it, Bear! Fresh honey!" she urged.
But Bear was not as foolish as she thought! He remembered everything from yesterday, but he pretended to be clueless.
"Sure! Let me open it," Bear said with a smile. "Yesterday someone stole our honey, but today I won't let anyone take it. And I won't let the bees catch me off guard this time!"
As Bear opened the box, the bees zoomed out and hovered in the air, staring at him angrily.
Bear subtly glanced toward a thick tree trunk where Sly Fox was hiding.
Suddenly, the Queen Bee shouted, "Stop! Do not attack Bear! He is not the thief. The real culprit is hiding right behind that tree! I saw her there yesterday too!"
"And make sure she doesn't steal your honey today!" Bear quickly added. "She thinks she is very smart, but I saw her stealing the honey yesterday while I pretended to be asleep!"
As soon as Bear finished speaking, the angry swarm of bees turned around and charged straight toward the tree!
Fox realized she was caught. She gasped and ran for her life, but the bees were right on her tail, buzzing furiously!
Watching Sly Fox run around in circles trying to escape the bees, Forgetful Bear burst into loud, happy laughter!
