It was a time from long ago, there was a beautiful valley named Noor Nagar. The people of this valley were famous far and wide for their sincere manners and love. In a corner of this very valley, little Ahsan lived with his grandfather in a small, clean mud house. Ahsan's heart was as pure as the morning moon, but he was always restless to discover one of life’s greatest secrets.
One evening, as the sun was wrapping up its golden sheet to hide behind the mountains and the beautiful Maghrib Adhan (call to prayer) was echoing from the mosque, Ahsan held his grandfather's hand after the prayer and said, "Grandfather! You always say that the greatest wealth is the one that never ends. What is that wealth? And how can I find it?" Grandfather affectionately patted Ahsan's head, and a smile gleamed within his white beard. He took out a velvet pouch from his pocket, removed a colorless, dull stone from it, placed it on Ahsan's palm, and said, "My child! This is the stone of the 'Awakened Heart' (Dil-e-Bedaar). It is withered right now, but if you do three such deeds that please Allah and bring comfort to His creation, this stone will turn into the most precious diamond, and you will find your desired wealth."
The next morning, Ahsan set out on his journey with the stone in his pocket. As he was passing through the valley's marketplace, he saw an old woodcutter walking with a heavy bundle of wood, sweat dripping from his forehead. Suddenly, his foot slipped, and the pieces of wood scattered everywhere. The people passing by were busy with their own tasks, but Ahsan remembered the saying of our Holy Prophet (peace be upon him): "The best among you is the one who benefits others." Ahsan rushed forward, supported the old grandfather, gathered all the wood with his small hands, and delivered them to the old man's house. When he put his hand in his pocket, he was astonished to see that a portion of the stone had turned into a deep blue color, emitting a faint fragrance of humility.
At noon, Ahsan sat down near a water spring to rest. There, his eyes fell upon a bright wallet lying on the grass. When Ahsan opened it, it was filled with gold coins. For a moment, a thought crossed his mind about how many toys he could buy with it, but immediately his conscience knocked, reminding him that a Muslim is trustworthy, and Allah is watching at all times. Ahsan picked up the wallet and began calling out, "Whose wallet is this?" A short while later, a merchant arrived there crying, having lost his entire life's savings. Ahsan handed over the wallet to him with complete honesty. Overjoyed, the merchant wanted to give him some coins, but Ahsan gently refused and said, "I desire its reward only from my Lord." When Ahsan looked at the stone, its second part was shining like a green emerald, reflecting the brilliance of trust and piety.
Evening was falling, and Ahsan was returning home when, along the way, a mischievous boy from the valley threw a stone in jest, which struck Ahsan straight on his knee. Ahsan felt severe pain and tears came to his eyes. If he wanted, he could have taken revenge because he was stronger than that boy, but he remembered the verse of the Holy Quran in which Allah says that those who restrain anger and pardon people are beloved to Allah. Ahsan took a deep breath, swallowed his anger, smiled, and said, "It is okay, brother! May Allah keep you happy." The boy was thoroughly ashamed and stepped forward to embrace Ahsan. At that very moment, the stone in Ahsan's pocket grew intensely bright. Its final part had turned red like a ruby, and now it was no longer an ordinary stone, but a rare, shining diamond whose light illuminated even the dark path.
Ahsan ran home, rested his head in his grandfather's lap, and showed him the stone, saying, "Grandfather! Look, this stone has completely changed and brightened!" Grandfather held Ahsan close to his chest and said in a loving tone, "My dear child! This brilliance does not belong to the stone, but to the human inside you. You have illuminated your heart with selflessness, trust, and forgiveness. This is the true wealth that never ends—the wealth of faith (Iman) and good character—and this is the beautiful face of our beloved religion, Islam." Ahsan smiled and looked towards the sky, where the stars were shining, and his heart was overflowing with gratitude to his Lord and the light of faith.
