1. Executive Summary
Two-thirds of the Earth's surface consists of oceans. These oceans act like our earth's circulatory system, providing life to the entire world. If there are no oceans, life on earth is not possible.
2. Ecological Importance
*Oxygen supply:* More than 50% of the oxygen we use to breathe comes from plants and organisms in the oceans.
*Balancing the seasons:* The oceans control the temperature and mood of the Earth's seasons, forming clouds and causing rain.
*Biodiversity:* There is a magical underwater world inhabited by colorful coral reefs, dolphins, whales and rare fishes. Pakistan's own sea "Arabian Sea" is also rich in these precious treasures.
3. Primary Threats
*Plastic storm:* Millions of tons of plastic waste (shopping bags, bottles, straws) are thrown into the oceans every year. Innocent sea turtles and fish mistake it for food and die.
* Industrial pollution:* Chemicals mixed with toxic and dirty water from factories are thrown into the oceans without treatment, making the water poisonous.
* GLOBAL WARMING (Increasing Earth's Temperature):* Due to global warming, ocean water is becoming excessively warm, which is destroying the beautiful homes of marine life.
4. Preventive Measures and Recommendations (Recommended Solutions)
1. Boycott plastic:* Get into the habit of bringing cloth bags and reusable bottles to picnics or school instead of single-use plastic bags.
2. Cleanliness of Beaches:* Whenever you go to a beach (like Clifton Beach in Karachi), always put your trash in the dustbin instead of leaving it there.
3. Water saving: * Do not leave the water tap open unnecessarily while brushing teeth or bathing at home so that dirty water reaches the sea at least.
4. Spread awareness:* Tell your friends, cousins and classmates about the importance of oceans so that everyone can become its protectors.
